Ants – A Common pest in every home

Our building structures are ideal for ants, they can invade our homes from any part of the building. They can be seen in many places like beneath the carpets and especially in kitchens. Ants are often unseen pests in the home. Ants are capable of travelling many far distances in search of food. Even a hygienic pantry can also be infested by ants. An extreme infestation of ants is formed during summers. Ants live in colonies formed in the soil or timber or under pavers. Ants are more problematic in summers as they multiply in large quantities, search and store food in large for colder months.

Ants do not carry any diseases but its bite may cause irritations, redness and even swellings. Sometime they scavage for food in garbages and excrete in unsanitary areas. There are thousands of different species of ants like garden ants, Pharoah’s ant, red fire ants, odorous house ant, carpenter ant, coastal brown ant, bulldog ant and many more. The following are some of the measures to carry out when the presence of infestation is observed.

  • Spray some some water on the ants.
  • Keep the cucumber slices near the entry point of ants.
  • Keep crushed or dry mint leaves, tea bags of mint tea or cloves where ants are most active.
  • Draw a line near entry point such that ants cannot cross them with cinnamon powder, pepper or citrus oil.
  • Mix on litre of water with one cup of sugar, and teaspoon of borax powder. Soak the cotton balls in the mixture and place them in a container, the ants will carry the bits into the colonies and kill all the infestation.
  • Put garlic cloves in the cracks where ants can infest.

The above natural measures can remove the infestation for some extent but if the infestation is very large then you have to take the help of professionals
